As a local resident I am entitled to a free tour around the 2012 Olympic site, so today I got on a free tour bus (that had to be booked in advance) from outside Stratford Station and went to see what it was all about. Before I could even get on the tour bus I had to show photo ID and there was more of that to come. The tour itself with a very knowledgeable guide was very Interesting but the opportunity to take any kind of decent photos were very poor. When we got to the site proper, security guards came on the bus to have a snoop in bags and bits, while outside a sniffer dog was sniffing all round the underside of the bus. The reason for poor photos were we were NEVER allowed off the bus and trying to take photos from a slow moving, cramped, vibrating bus with dirty windows, is not ideal. Still here are a few photos of the tour.

The new Stratford City, not far from the stadium and will consist of the biggest new shopping centre in Europe

Stratford Station is having a major face lift and the NEW Stratford International station (fully finished) will be opening in the next few months (you can see the Stadium top left of picture)

On site and some big boys toys. With the shear size of the complex and the adjoining construction of the new Stratford City, this must be one of the biggest building sites in the World (notice the sign to the Handball courts)

The Olympic Village for 17,500 athletes from across the globe. When the games are done there will be 2800 new homes available from the village site

The Velodrome

The Aquatic centre

And finally........ The Stadium Itself

Sunday 29th November 2009 was Arsenals charity game of the season, this years chosen charity was Great Ormand Street Children's Hospital. The day before the game saw 100 volunteers place 60,000 flyers in the emirates, one for each seat. The flyer encouraged fans to donate via text to this seasons worthy cause. Money will go to a new Arsenal lung unit in the hospital. It was a cold, winters morning but we got all the flyers out in what was said to be a record time. And me... Well I left one on the seat of the most important man there... Mr Wenger. I hope he made a donation!

Scanned a few photo's - it was my last ever game at Highbury ... V Juventus in the Champions League ... the night Cesc came of age and we beat them 2 - 0. Highbury looked great - a mixture of sadness and joy for me - some of the other guys from the supporters club said I was wired ... singing, chanting, at one stage I started a " Robin van Persie" as he warmed up and the whole North Bank started singing it, then it spread to the East Stand where he was warming up along the touchline ... one of my proudest moments

First Game I attended: At Highbury - Arsenal v Wolves -it was Paul Davis 1st game for the 1st team - cant recall the score or the year but Emlyn Hughes was playing for Wolves
Great Game I attended: I was at the Semi final of the "what ever cup " at White Hart lane 1993 - we needed to score two goals - David Rocastle provided them both .. great game of football .. just for the look on the spurs fans faces

Devastating Game I attended: Luton 3 Arsenal 2 at Wembley in the "what ever" Cup final, some year in the mid eighty's 2-0 up to 2-2 and we then miss a penalty they trot down the field and win it.. sick I was physically sick outside the ground.. must have been those old Wembley Pies

First game I attended: Paul Mersons testimonial (8-5!!)

Great Game I attended: Milan v ARSENAL - We needed to be the first English team to beat Milan at the San Siro and that we went on to achieve, 2-0 and I will never forget that night! Rome wasn't bad either, considering we lost on the night!? Season 07/08

Devastating Game I attended: Liverpool v Arsenal - The very next game after the Milan outing it was off to Liverpool... We lost 4-2 but were going through with a few minutes left. enough SAID. Season 07/08

Liverpool V Arsenal Anfield 21-04-09 4-4 Arshavin 4 Goals!

I had a very strange feeling on the way up to this game, as it stands we were out of contention of wining the league and Aston Villa had dropped another two points at home to West Ham so fourth spot was pretty much guaranteed.

With Liverpool challenging Man Utd for the league and us due to play Man Utd in the Champs leauge soon, Arsenal fans will have to forgive me for not being overly bothered about the result just a good game was all i was after, however as soon as that whistle went and the songs begun all i wanted was a victory, the game that unfolded in front of my eyes reminded me why i love football so much, if people were not already taking note of Andrei Arshavin they certainly were now, he showed everyone he was world class he was never really in the game just happened to score four goals :)

Excellent atmosphere as always at Anfield and i have to say the Arsenal fans were absolutely spot on we never stopped throughout the game i eneded up losing my voice but i wouldn't have it any other way!!! that was nearly 700 miles clocked up.

Arsenal Youth V Man City Youth Emirates 22-04-09 4-1 Watt 2 Wilshire 1 Bartley 1 (6-2agg)

After 5 hours sleep from the Liverpool game i was back on the road and on my way to the Emirates for the Youth Semi-final against Man City, excellent first half performance put this tie to bed early Watt after 34 seconds and a tightly squeezed pen from Jack Wilshire seemed to have this tie sorted in the first half. I was lucky enough to have a bllinding view and sat next to none other then Gavin Hoyte, i also stumbled across Andy Ansah the ex footballer and dream team actor. another 300 miles topped me up to a 1000 miles in two days following the mighty ARSENAL!! and i loved every minute of it!

1984..... NOT the famous book/film but the year I married, moved, became a Dad (GaryJNR) and had EIGHT SCORE DRAWS on the pools. I did a 20 week standing entry with Zetters pools (cheapest of the three major companies Including Littlewoods and Vernons) the 20 weeks cost a fiver! on the 20th and last week with my eighth and last draw being the final match on the coupon and it ending in a 3-3 draw! I won a nice sum to tide me over at a very expensive time as you can Imagine

Gary Snr and Jnr i urge you to go and book up for a tour of the Emirates that goes for all the other forum members if they have not been on one. I've taken loads of pics but just thought id send Gary a few to put on his site. The pic that made me smile the most was that of the Hydro pool in the changing room. talk about being pampered must be hard work playing for 90min then climbing in the pool thinking about how your going to spend your 80grand lol. As i said the tour is well worth it so get yourself there.

Just dropping you a line with a story which although football related is not about arsenal ,many years ago the exact year cant be sure but Alex Stepney and Eamon Dunphy played for Millwall before he went to man/u,they used to train a team  called Byron lords of which i was manager, they did this by way of youth community. On match day we always saw a man watching dressed in one of those old style afgan coats anyway slowly but surely one by one our best players were disappearing from training so we made a few inquiries and it seems this afgan coat was a scout for crystal palace and was inviting the players to train at the palace ground, this in them days was called poaching and was frowned upon. To cut a long story short we reported crystal palace to the f/a and had to appear with their manager who was Bert Head at the time.we won the case and they offered us to be their junior club and send our best players to them for trials they gave us a set of strip and a couple of balls and helped out with buying our permits. This was a win for the underdog against the giants of the sport, wonderful memories so many years ago.

Firstly, thanks to you all for your commiserations on my fruitless trip - except, I still loved the fact of being there - I've been to a few non events in the past as I'm sure you all have been - Arsenal 0 Blackburn 0 on my tenth wedding anniversary - left her with the relations up in Leicester and travelled down to London with her brother - that anniversary still haunts me !! - booked tickets through the supporters club for the crunch match against Ajax - last game in the qualification group which should have decided the group winners in theory right ? ... except both had qualified so I watched Arsenal reserves against Ajax reserves - a thrilling 0 - 0 - worked 56 days in a row in 1998 - earned lots of money - my Dad, a lifelong Liverpool supporter was sick with cancer, so I booked us both on a trip to see the Liverpool V Arsenal game at the end of the season - a game Arsenal would surely have to win if they were to have any chance of winning the title - right ? ... we had already won it at that stage by beating Everton, so I saw the Arsenal reserves lose 4 - 0, with my Dad beating the head of me everytime Liverpool scored ..................... but that was and is one of my most treasured memories, seeing my Dads face the first time he saw the pitch at Anfield and the way he sang "you'll never walk alone" ... if Liverpool win it this year he'll be dancing and singing in heaven God bless him.

I've seen some crackers too - both at Highbury and the Emirates - Man Utd (Cantona got sent off - shame ) - Portsmouth (Thierry strolled about for a while - then took off like a bullet and scored) - Juventus at the Emirates (Vieira must have had tears in his eyes - two Italians went nuts - "Cheerio Cheerio Cheerio") and the great Bergkamp's testimonial - first game at the Emirates (wow - I saw Cruijff and van Basten playing !!) ... so I can honestly say - I'm proud to be a Gooner and always will be. Even if they break my heart at times - they're still my team ... in fact if Carlsberg made football teams ... planning my next trip already !!
