"Another fruitless season, with more downs than ups. Although putting it into context we have probably over achieved (given the sqaud we started with). I thought we would end up 4th before the season started but that was not accounting for all the injuries we picked up along the way! With the team that we have 4th was the best that we could get and we got it. With the cups, 1 if not both were there for the taking and I think the players lost there nerve and Wenger lost his mind with the selections! This will be Wengers defining season, and it will be defined before the first ball is kicked. We all know what the squad needs so lets hope we get it! "We were always going to struggle with losing the quality we did in midfield - we all knew it at the start of the campaign, we all said it, and so it was hardly a surprise it turned out the way it did. Yes it's good we managed to hit the magic 4th once again, but honestly, we've come to expect more than repeatedly being the 'nearly rans'.Wenger's right in that you don't get to 4th without being better than 16 other teams, and he's also right in that our team is very young and full of long-term promise, however, the Nasri & Arshavin signings prove what can happen when you compliment that with a few quid. We missed a trick not getting Barry or Alsono, and then we missed another trick by not getting Given. A couple of judicious DEFENSIVE signings in the summer and I do think we'll be realistically pushing hard on all fronts for the top spots next season.I think we'd be mad as fans to want Wenger to go, but by God his stubbornness can be INFURIATING at times! "To be honest i was never too confident that this season would be good before it started. Wenger letting go of Flamini and Glberto and not replacing them with an experienced DM was going to be a problem. Also I think Wenger concentrated too much on holding on to Ade and let go of Hleb and Gilberto. He should have said to players "Your under contract, you can't move" Keeping Gallas as captain was a mistake as well, it was only a matter of time before he exploded. Hopefully Wenger can keep this squad, no one going out and getting an experienced CB and DM. Then we can really do well next season" Wenger Score 04, Team Score 06
"Losing Flamini, Hleb, Gilberto and Lehman was always going to be difficult - but not to replace that experience was folly. Still AW gave youth a chance and discovered that when the going gets tough, we aren't tough enough to tough it out with the big boys. He was let down by Gallas and Adebayor - more mouth than action on the pitch - injuries - it all points to the fact that we need to spend some money. Nasri looks class and so does Arshavin. I can only hope that AW realises the need to buy an experienced defensive midfielder and at least a top class centre half. I have my doubts though and unless we strengthen in the summer we will be fighting for fourth place again and hoping for a good cup run. Is this progress Arsene?" Wenger Score 05, Team Score 06
